Ladakh was even more surprising than we could have imagined: Mineral landscapes; Mountain oases; Herds of goats (such soft hair!); Especially the people, who were so welcoming; And the proximity to Tibetans and Buddhism. To fully benefit from these experiences takes great effort: Gradual adaptation to the altitude; Trying to comprehend the geological development of huge mountains; Making contact with local inhabitants; Allowing yourself to be immersed in – without necessarily understanding – the philosophy and religion with which you find yourself in constant interaction. Above all, we had the good fortune to be guided by Tashi and Stephanie, who shared their profound knowledge of the ‘high country’ and showed great skills as hosts.
