Tibetan Yoga

Developed over centuries in the ancient monasteries of Tibet; Tibetan yoga was originally practiced by Buddhist lamas who believed in being present in each moment and in living these moments to its fullest. These lamas lived for over 100 years but held the youth and vitality of men half their age.

Tibetan yoga is an incredible program which is known to turn back the hands of time. It is the union of body, mind and spirit; anchored through the synchronization of breathing and physical movement.

Tibetan yoga cleanses the impure energies within the body. It encompasses movement of the five major pranas in union with the five elements to open the chakras as well as the channels in the body.

Day 1

Wednesday 18th of July 2018

Arrival in Delhi.

Arrive Delhi and transfer to the hotel for your first night in the capital of India.

This evening will mark your introduction to your exceptional and compassionate guide, Dr Chok. You will also have the opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Day 2

Thursday 19th of July 2018

Delhi. Leh.

An early departure from Delhi by flight to Ladakh; otherwise known as Little Tibet”. This flight boasts spectacular views overlooking the Himalayas. Ladakh, located on the northern tip of the Himalayan range, is nestled between two of the highest mountain ranges in the world, the Karakoram and the Himalayas.


When you arrive in Leh, head to the Meditation Centre to get settled. This first day will be dedicated to your acclimatization to the altitude. It is a day of rest, allowing you to enjoy the sunshine and breathtaking beauty of the Himalayan landscapes.

You will also meet your local guide, Tenpa.

Day 3

Friday 20th of July 2018

Leh. Stok. Leh.

This morning, you will participate in your first Tibetan yoga session. Dr Chok will explain the concepts behind the practice and demonstrate the various positions. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you have about these specific techniques or principles. Dr. Chok will also address topics such as mindfulness, meditation and happiness.

Afterward, you will discover the heritage of old Leh town with its maze of hidden alleyways and temples, starting with the Tsemo temple which overlooks the town. This temple is revered in local culture as it is considered the hub of powerful protective deities.


You will then make your way towards the historic village of Stok. You will visit Stok Palace; rich in Tibetan architecture, where part of the royal Ladakhi family continues to reside since its loss of power in the early 19th century. The palace contains an interesting museum which houses many treasures from the royal court. You will also visit an exhibition of very old thangkas (Tibetan painting on cloth) as well as a heritage house.

In the afternoon, return to Leh where you can enjoy free time.

Day 4

Saturday 21th of July 2018

Leh. Thiksey. Choglamsar.

Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok.

Then drive to Thiksey Monastery. Built on top of a rocky hill, this monastic complex resembles the Potala of the Forbidden City of Lhasa in Tibet. It houses a huge statue of Maitraya Buddha; the Buddha of the future whose purity of gaze invites internal reflection.

You will also learn how to print Tibetan prayer flags with the help of Tashi’s (cofounder of Omalaya) father. Tashi’s father is a former tailor who holds a unique printing block which has been passed down from generation to generation. Later during your stay, you will be asked to hang these flags so that the prayers will fly in the wind for the good of all beings.


After your lunch, you will visit the Institute of Medicine and Tibetan Astrology (Men-Tsee-Khang) where you will meet an amchi, doctor of traditional Tibetan medicine for a holistic consultation. Through this experience, you will discover the benefits of this 2,500-year-old science that restores mental and physical balance through natural remedies.

Day 5

Sunday 22nd of July 2018

Leh. Alchi. Timosgam.

Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok.

Dr. Chok will take you to discover Alchi Oasis –a small village with a collection of temples representing the crowning of Indo-Tibetan art in Ladakh. Dating back to the 12th century, Alchi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will be amazed by the splendid temple of Tsa Tsa Puri, erected on the plain, home to frescoes and sculptures created by artists from Kashmir.

Then you will make your way to Timosgam where you will spend the night.


Day 6

Monday 23rd of July 2018

Timosgam. Lamayuru. Atisey. Timosgam.

Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok.

First will be a visit to the moonscapes of Lamayuru and its tenth-century monastery which is sure to enchant you. This magnificent structure overlooks an ancient dry lake and dominates the village in the valley below.

In this place of serenity you will have the privilege of being welcomed by a yogi; a practitioner of meditation exceptionally tuned to spiritual practice, who will demonstrate the practice of Chöd. This ritual aims to diminish attachment to one’s ego and reduce its negative influences. The yogi will accompany you throughout this experience which  frees the mind and reveals its true nature.

In the afternoon, Dr Chok will take you to discover Atisey’s hermitage. It is a place of indescribable energy where Saint Naropa meditated.

Day 7

Tuesday 24th of July 2018


Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok.

This morning, Dr. Chok will take you to meet the warm nuns of Timosgam whose hospitality is exceptional. They will lead you on a tour throughout the convent and you will be able to observe scenes of their daily activities and rituals.


Then you will visit the Gompa of Khar, a temple dedicated to Cherizing, the Buddha of Compassion.

Day 8

Wednesday 25th of July 2018

Timosgam. Leh.

Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok. Then you will head back to Leh where you will spend the night.

Day 9

Thursday 26th of July 2018

Leh. Sumur. Nubra.

Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok.

Departure for the valley of the Nubra still called the valley of the flowers. Isolated from the rest of Ladakh by the Khardongla Pass and located in the northern region of Ladakh, Nubra Valley is surprisingly fertile thanks to a micro climate conducive to agriculture.

A former major trade route, located south of the Silk Road, this valley still has the imprint of its past commercial activities. Witness the presence of Bactrian camels that roam the sand dunes in the wilderness of the Shyok Valley .


Upon arrival, discover the village of Sumur, its mani walls and old houses.

On the road, in the garden of the Buddha, you will hang the prayer flags that you made with Tashi’s father. In this peaceful setting, you will be introduced to this age old ritual of sending greetings of peace, harmony and happiness to all sentient beings.

Day 10

Friday 27th of July 2018

Sumur. Diskit. Hunder. Sumur.

Today, you will visit Diskit Monastery and its imposing statue of Maitreya inaugurated in 2010 by the Dalai Lama. You will then receive the blessings of Lord Maitreya.

Saturday 28th of July 2018


Morning Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr Chok.

In the afternoon, Dr Chok will take you to Yarab Tso lake, a sacred location for Buddhists. Local legend speaks of visions appearing to pilgrims within the fine movements of the waves. A time of meditation and discussion will then be proposed to you alongside Dr Chok.

Day 12

Sunday 29th of July 2018

Sumur. Leh.

Last Tibetan yoga session and Q&A with Dr. Chok.

You will then make you way back to Leh and enjoy free time in the capital.
In the evening, accompanied by your guide and Dr Chok, the Omalaya team has prepared a closing dinner. A moment of relaxation and comradery as you enjoy your last meal with your fellow travellers.

Day 13

Monday 30th of July 2018

Leh. Delhi.

Today, you leave Ladakh by plane and head to the capital of India, New Delhi. You will then have free time to discover the city and make any last minute purchases before your departure.


Day 14

Tuesday 31st of July 2018

Leaving Delhi.

Last day of your trip in the captivating capital of India and transfer to the international airport according to your departure times.

Your Guide

Dr Chok is an accomplished teacher who has dedicated his career to the continuance of the Tibetan language in modern society. He has spent the last decade advancing his studies at a plethora of institutions and obtained his Ph.D at the University of Delhi.

Ordained by HH The Dalai Lama, he practiced as a Tibetan monk for 10 years before adopting the life of a practicing academic, teacher and healer. As the Head of the Research and Translation Department at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamshala, he teaches a wide range of modalities from Tibetan language classes to Tibetan yoga and Buddhist philosophy.

His passion however lies with Tibetan (lujong) yoga. This eastern style of yogic practice is exceedingly rare and few people, are qualified to teach it today.

Travelling with Dr Chok offers a unique opportunity to integrate these rare yogic practices with Buddhist philosophy; articulated in a way that seamlessly blends eastern thought with western context.
